The Cheonggyecheon stream flows (almost) through Seoul along some pretty interesting sights. What used to be an unkempt stream was given a new lease of life and even made practical through a major renovation. (If you're interested in the background story do check this link out for more information, routes and sights!)
What we like to do is to have an early start and take a short walk along the stream. Shops aren't opened yet, we get to squeeze in a little bit of leisure exercise, look out for ducks and work up an appetite :) You will notice that the locals do take a stroll through the stream to work or to the market. Others have also shared that a walk along the stream in the evening is lovely as well, particularly during the lantern festival in December. Which is a good move since the plants and trees would be bare in winter.
The stream has two routes but we like to take the one that starts at City Hall as it has more recognisable stops along the way. To locate the stream, look out for a huge, whimsical, willy wonka-ish snail cone which marks the entrance of the stream. Walk and venture forth as there are markers situated strategically along the stream.
Some interesting things to admire would be the story panels - pretty painted tiles along the stream, highly detailed and makes such a lovely backdrop for a selca/selfie ;P Another thing to keep you occupied is that all the bridges you come across would have their own names.. cute! There are also interesting plants to look at, critters, fishes in the stream, ducks and lovely little spots for photo taking.
Where do we grab a bite after a walk? Well.. look out for the next entry as we bring you to a local market in the heart of Seoul, Gwangjang market! We will highlight a few halal-friendly stalls to try and also some tips on foods to avoid. See ya in a bit!
